A compelling civilian variant of the three-register Breguet Type XX, this example dates to the 1960s and traces its design lineage to the French military-commissioned pilot’s chronographs built for navigational use. This configuration is known as the “Big Eye,” named for its oversized running seconds register for improved legibility at a glance, and features the Type XX’s signature flyback chronograph function, allowing the chronograph to be instantly reset and restarted with a single press.
Originally a black matte dial, it has aged into a fabulous tropical dark chocolate patina, paired with luminous syringe hands and Arabic numerals showing light, honest aging. Powered by the manual wind Valjoux 71 movement, the inner dust cover retains a Parisian jeweller/watchmaker tag, adding another charming period detail. A wonderful example of an iconic aviation chronograph, especially appealing in this warm tropical state.
