A rare Mido New York World's Fair watch in stainless steel, crafted circa 1939 to commemorate the New York World's Fair and exhibited within the Swiss Pavilion. The unpolished case is stamped "Rustless Steel" and "Staybrite," with grooved edges resembling a postage stamp, retaining its original fitted glass crystal and hand-wound movement.
The silvered dial is unlike any other, incorporating a stylized depiction of the fair's iconic Trylon and Perisphere. The Perisphere is cleverly integrated into the subsidiary seconds register, while the letters of WORLD'S FAIR circle the perimeter as hour markers, each separated by a dot.
Fitted with what we believe to be its original leather strap and period plated buckle, this watch offers a remarkable connection to one of the most celebrated international exhibitions of the twentieth century.
Based on our research, examples of this reference appear exceptionally uncommon. We have also created a video exploring its details, titled "Mido New York World's Fair Vintage Steel Rare Watch 1939" on YouTube.
