An unusual and really cool Rolex Cellini that, to this writer’s imagination, evokes the shape of a U-shaped buckle—and it’s just as charming. Reference 4100, dating to circa 1975–76, is crafted in 18k yellow gold with an asymmetrical case unlike most Cellini designs of the period.
The case is beautifully curved, with softly rounded sides that curl inward at the ends and a Rolex-signed crown neatly tucked into the profile. The crystal is particularly well made, with rounded edges transitioning into sharp lower corners that continue into the extended lugs, giving the watch its distinctive shape.
The champagne sunburst dial is minimally adorned with raised hobnail hour markers, an applied Rolex coronet, slim gold hands and a black script Cellini signature. Powered by a manual-wind movement.
The original Rolex factory sticker remains on the caseback, while the case retains strong hallmarks and crisp definition throughout. Fitted with a Rolex black alligator strap and fastened by a Rolex gold-plated buckle.
In fabulous vintage condition—dare we say “shop worn”—and a fantastical little Cellini for the collector drawn to the unusual within a well-loved line.
