It’s amazing to come across the variety of designs within the same line of a brand, where some details are so subtle yet thoughtful—and those are often the ones that excite us most.
This Patek Philippe Ellipse reference 4498/1 from the 1990s is crafted in 18k yellow gold with an integrated bracelet and factory diamond-set bezel surrounding a beautiful blue Sigma dial with a striking sunburst finish. The dial is minimally set with diamonds at the quarter hours and paired with twisted gold hands, a particular favorite of ours.
That same twisted detail carries into the bracelet, alternating with smooth gold elements to create an intricate woven-like pattern. Incredibly supple on the wrist, the bracelet finishes with a concealed clasp bearing the Calatrava cross and continuing the same motif so beautifully worked throughout.
Powered by a manual-wind movement and finished with a signed Patek Philippe crown.
For this writer, the bracelet is really what makes the watch. The texture, movement and workmanship are wonderful in person, and paired with that deep blue diamond dial, it easily ranks among our favorite Ellipse configurations.
