A rare find, this IWC Ingenieur dated to 1962 is an early tool watch, predating Gérald Genta’s later redesign of the model. Housed in a stainless steel case, it features a silvered dial that has developed a patina throughout, with visible bubbling and oxidation—now an integral part of its vintage charm. The dial retains its original lume plots, with raised silvered baton hour markers and hands showing subtle green oxidation, alongside center lume.
Additional details include a sweep seconds hand, date aperture, and the stylized “Ingenieur” script with International Watch Co. fully spelled out, true to its period-correct design. The crown is signed with IWC’s fish logo, and the watch is powered by the robust caliber 8531 automatic movement.
Its bold, curved lugs and well-proportioned case give it a strong wrist presence, making for a refined yet sporty vintage offering. A precision instrument built for harsh environments, wrapped in understated design, this 1962 example represents the Ingenieur’s original purpose at its purest.
