An early edition of the ever-popular Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, crafted in the late 1970s and executed in steel and 18k yellow gold.
A departure from the typical form, this 6005SA example features a rectangular case paired with a grey tapisserie dial, contrasted by raised gold stick markers that have developed a warm patina, along with matching hands. White printed “Audemars Piguet” and “quartz” signatures complete the dial.
The integrated two-tone bracelet remains tight and well-preserved, fastening with a deployant clasp, with the flip-lock embossed “AP.” The caseback is in yellow gold.
Powered by a quartz movement, setting the time is unconventional—the crown in the second position advances the hour hand forward and back, while the minute hand moves forward and is adjusted by applying pressure via a pin. Thankfully, the quartz movement minimizes the need for frequent adjustment.
