A wonderfully distinctive vintage Chopard from the 1970s, crafted in 18k yellow gold with an equestrian-inspired stirrup design. The oval case is suspended between two large open stirrup-form links, which articulate slightly to follow the wrist and give the watch a much larger presence than the petite case alone would suggest.
The focal point is the natural tiger’s-eye stone dial, vivid with bands of brown, bronze and golden tones that shift dramatically depending on the light. Left completely free of hour markers, the stone is simply adorned with gold dauphine hands and a Chopard Genève signature, allowing its natural striations to take center stage. The signed L.U.C. crown is complemented by an additional L.U.C. signature (and 0.750) tucked discreetly inside one of the stirrup links, a detail that is largely hidden while worn. Powered by the Chopard-signed caliber 2512, based on the ETA 2512 manual-wind movement, its gold-toned movement carries Chopard Genève signing.
The 18k yellow gold case bears South American hallmarks, while the articulated stirrup links extend outward to meet a custom-made brown nubuck strap, finished with a gold-plated buckle. The open links also allow glimpses of the wrist beneath, giving the otherwise substantial gold design a surprisingly airy appearance.
A whole lot of look from a relatively compact watch: part timepiece, part piece of jewellery, with the stirrup construction hugging the wrist and the tiger’s-eye dial changing character with every turn of the light.
