Very cool, kind of eccentric - for a Cellini no less - vintage Rolex for the two metal effect individually stamped with 18k hallmarks on each half. Papers accompanying this piece motion it was sold in Buenos Aires dated 1980.
This Cellini seems like a true outlier within the typically understated Rolex lineage. The two-tone tonneau case, with each half crafted in a different color of 18k gold and matching its corresponding dial sector, is a bold move from Rolex—both refined and a little rebellious. The asymmetrical harmony between the silver and gold dial segments, emphasized by crisp black Roman numerals and thin hands create a fascinating play of light, especially under natural conditions. Powered by a manual wind movement, and fitted with a brown crocodile strap and Rolex-signed plaque buckle. This is a perfect example of Rolex experimenting with style while retaining their hallmark craftsmanship. Not quite flamboyant, but definitely a conversation starter—garish in the best way, perhaps like a dash of Italian flair in an otherwise Swiss silhouette. A spot on 1970s piece, a time when Rolex played a bit more with design.
Wear consistent with age, light scratches on case and gold sector of dial has light spotting/scratches.
