The King Midas stands as one of the most striking designs in Rolex’s Cellini line, and this reference 4015 from 1976 is a rare example attributed to Gérald Genta. Its asymmetrical 18k white gold case is defined by rounded fluting that creates a sculptural, bubble-like effect, with the left-positioned winding crown marking it unmistakably as part of the Midas family. The mirrored blue dial is a chameleon in itself — appearing deep black in some lighting and metallic blue in others — adorned only with minimalist white hands for a dramatic effect. Powered by the caliber 1601 manual-wind movement, it is paired with a custom dark blue crocodile strap chosen to match the dial’s shifting tones, appearing black or blue depending on the light. The caseback is lightly engraved ‘gracias 1981,’ adding a discreet personal touch to this bold, rare, and artful Rolex design.
