A joy to interact with, this piece reads as jewelry at first glance, its striking bracelet concealing a hidden dial that reveals itself only when lifted. Produced in limited numbers for a select clientele, this late-1950s example is crafted in 18k yellow gold and built around a brick-style bracelet manufactured by Gay Frères, long favored for Patek Philippe’s dress bracelet watches. The maker’s mark is stamped beneath the clasp.
Each individual “brick” is embellished with fine hobnail decoration, a texture carried throughout the bracelet and clasp, subtly interrupted by the Patek Calatrava emblem. Lifting the cover reveals a minimal dial with a white background, applied gold dauphine hour markers, and slim hands. The cover stays firmly in place when opened, and the crown is discreetly tucked away to preserve the jewelry-like profile.
Charming and quietly confident, this watch blends mid-century design with understated branding. It wears more robustly than it feels and remains a rare and rewarding find.
