This Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox ref. Q1418430 is a modern revival of the brand’s iconic 1950s alarm watches, reintroduced in the 2010s while retaining its charming mechanical character. True to its origins, it features a traditional hammer striking a gong, producing the signature “school bell” alarm sound.
Attractively configured in a silver-on-silver palette, the 40mm stainless steel case frames a silvered dial with Arabic numerals at 6, 9, and 12, a date window at 3 o’clock, and the inner rotating alarm disc signed “Memovox,” with an arrow indicating the set alarm time.
Powered by the automatic caliber 956, the lower crown—embossed “JL”—winds the movement and sets the time. The upper crown, marked with a “D” and directional arrow, winds and sets the alarm disc, as well as advances the date (forward). In our demonstration, the crown is fully wound in order to achieve the strong, resonant bell sound of the alarm. Our video shows time-setting, alarm activation, and date adjustment—be sure to listen with audio to appreciate its full character.
Continuing the legacy of mechanical alarm wristwatches, this piece may no longer serve a daily necessity, but remains endlessly engaging to interact with. It is fitted with a taupe leather strap and secured by a Jaeger-LeCoultre steel deployant clasp.
