A nice preowned Cartier Basculante reference 2386 with Cartier papers, crafted circa 2001. This is a curious design modeled after their first Cabriolet model from 1932 for its intended functionality during physical activity, so that the crystal is protected, as such the crown placement is allocated to the 12 o’clock position with a horizontal blue oval cabochon charmingly sitting on top. The dial is the standard silvered dial with black Roman numeral markers and inner chemin de fer minute track, secret Cartier signature at 10 o’clock and blued-steel sword-shaped hands. The inner polished case housing said dial is configured into a swing frame, movable in either forward or reverse direction, revealing double C signatures on the inner case back and a smooth steel topper. While this function may not pertain to today’s needs, it holds a fascinating detail that sets it apart from the regular Tank models and manages to sit relatively flush on the wrist.
