Cartier has produced many striking designs over the years, and some pieces truly stop you in your tracks for their craftsmanship and seemingly minimal yet highly sculptural elements—such as this vintage Cartier Cristallor reference 78096. Often referred to as the “Jumbo,” this larger example for the 1970s appears to have been carefully preserved for much of its life, with engravings remaining fully present and clearly legible.
The case features a distinctive three-tier stepped construction with hidden lugs, framing a white Roman “Paris” dial and finished with the original blue sapphire cabochon crown. The case back is equally sculptural, secured by four gold screws and continuing the hidden-lug architecture that gives the Cristallor its strong architectural presence.
The watch is powered by a caliber 78-1 (ETA 2512) manual-wind movement and is fitted with a Cartier black crocodile strap.
Notably, the original bill of sale is included, showing the watch was purchased in Hong Kong in 1971, along with the addition of an 18k gold deployant clasp at the time of purchase. A Cartier card of guarantee with its corresponding numbers, and presentation box also accompany the watch.
In such wonderfully preserved condition, this fetching Cristallor stands as a superb vintage Cartier and a fabulous addition to any collection.
